The Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War is one of Minsk's principal historical institutions, documenting the war's impact on Belarus. The decision to establish the museum was taken on 30 September 1943, its first exhibitions opened on 22 October 1944, and it has welcomed visitors in its current purpose-built home since 2014. Its narrative extends beyond weapons and military equipment to documents, photographs, personal belongings and evidence of individual lives during the war. A visit is therefore more than a look at large exhibits: it asks for time and reflection on loss, resistance and remembrance in Belarusian history. The subject is approached in a measured, informative way, without sensationalising conflict or suffering.

Because the displays address war, occupation and human loss, families and sensitive visitors may wish to consider the subject matter in advance.
